Wedgwood Cake

This cake was inspired by the beautiful Wedgwood china. I have one small Wedgwood cream pitcher that belonged to my grandmother which helped me get the color right. This cake was a surprise and the recipient (in the picture) just happened to wear the same color shirt! Lemon cake and lemon buttercream covered in marshmallow fondant. Stenciling done in royal icing. Bow made of gumpaste.

White Button Wedding Cake

Congratulations to Lindsay and Calvin!  We had such fun working on this cake and the wedding couldn't have been more beautiful in picturesque New Braunfels.  This is a design Lindsay found on The Knot and we altered it slightly, adding the bottom tier for more servings.  Bottom tier is a regular 10-in., 2nd tier is an extended 8-in., 3rd tier is an extended 6-in. and top tier is an extended 4-in.

She asked for White Almond Sour Cream cake with vanilla buttercream. The cake is covered in white marshmallow fondant.  This was our second experience with extended tiers except this time there were three!  We learned even more than the first time.  The gorgeous gumpaste peony was done by Cameron.  It's tinted to a coral color to match the bridesmaids dresses and then dusted with pearl dust to sparkle.

Our youngest daughter, Margot shot these photos and she and Cameron did some pretty lighting editing on the first two.  TFL!!

Homewood Graduation Cake 2012

Congratulations to our Cameron's homeschool graduating class of 2012!  I'm so thankful I got to make this cake for the reception.  The edible images on the middle tier were Romans 8:28 - "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (the class Bible verse) in varying fonts.

My first try at an extended tier and, as always, I learned a lot!  An extended tier is like two cakes stacked in one tier and then iced or covered in fondant.  All cake was White Almond Sour Cream and all icing was vanilla buttercream.  All tiers covered in fondant with silver dragees, edible images and black chocolate fondant.  "2012" numbers and plaque are gumpaste.

Cameron Graduates 2012!

We are SO excited to graduate our daughter Cameron - first graduate of the Smith Christian Homeschool Academy!  She had a really fun party with two lovely friends - Jamie and Stephanie.  They asked friends to meet at the Houston Galleria at 10:00 pm for a game of exciting broomball.  Dads even participated in this fast-paced (dangerous?) event.  I decided I liked my tailbone too much to get on the ice!

The cake was designed by the girls and they each got to pick their favorite flavor.  Bottom tier was Chocolate cake/mocha buttercream;  middle tier was yellow cake w/ fresh raspberry filling;  top tier was Snickerdoodle cake w/ cinnamon buttercream (a new favorite!).  Cake is covered in fondant stripes and middle tier is stamped w/ an impression mat and dusted silver.  "2012" numbers are gumpaste and the fondant balls are on wires at the top.  Names and photographs were done with edible images.

Each grad girl was represented by one of her "favorite things":  ballet for Jamie, horses for Cameron, and photography for Stephanie.

Congratulations, girls!!
